A  Ranch By Any Other Name
Cher and Kessa's Masterpiece
A Ranch by Any Other Name

Helen, Lois, Francis, Annette, Ed & Dave
The ranch was purchased in 1950 by a group of siblings. They were Francis Moore, Ed and Helen O'Brien, Annette Profit and Shirley Payne. It was a hot, dusty haying day, one full of breakdowns and problems, Shirley was walking in from the hayfield after taking lunch to the crew and not a little discouraged when she came up with a very fitting name:

"O'Briens' Moore Payne than Profit Ranch".

Pat, Francis, Helen, Grandma Payne, Ed, John & Shirley

Cher and Kessa's Masterpiece
Hello- it is me the MIghtly Huntress! Well I figure since I have accomplished all I can accomplish this hunting season I will write something for the Reminiscin' Section. I think my cohart? would certainly validate this story as I believe it was she who came up with the devious scheme! Kess and I (Cheryl) were completely fascinated with that shiny gold cauldron(or as Grampa called it a spittoon.) It was a sunny afternoon, the breeze making its way across the ranch. The elders ( I cannot exactly remember which ones those were... but it's a good chance that it was just about anyone a year or so older than we were at the time) were having one of those famous, "We ate too much of Gramma's lunch, had too many oatmeal cookies, and now it's time for a nap," naps up on O'Brien Ranch. We were left alone for a few brief moments. Kess and I confiscated the shiny gold cauldron and found ourselves outside, near the garage looking for paintbrushes. By this time we were unstoppable. We painted the Radio Flyer wagon a deep brown, a deep chewing tobacco brown. No, we couldn't stop there,  the garage was in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint too. Well the least we can say is that it was years later when we fessed up to that one. Hopefully Kess might remember some other times we shared growing up... oh remember the raft that we built and TRIED to float down the irrigation ditch?
                                                                   Love,
                                                                         Cher
